Samoan Catholic Community

Background:

The Samoan Community is currently transitioning from a Chaplaincy to a Community under the care of six parishes.

Father Epati Tamati was the only Chaplain who ministered to the Samoan Community in the Archdiocese of Brisbane from (December) 2000 to 2018. Towards the middle of his 18-year term, Father Epati was also appointed Associate Pastor at Mary McKillop Birkdale Parish. With the premise that ‘Samoans are well integrated in their respective parishes’, a decision was made in late 2018 to discontinue the Samoan Chaplaincy.
