Background:

The Samoan Community is transitioning from a Chaplaincy to a Community under the care of six parishes.

Father Epati Tamati ministered as Chaplain to the Samoan Community in the Archdiocese of Brisbane from (December) 2000 to 2018. Towards the middle of his 18-year term, Father Epati was also appointed Associate Pastor at Mary McKillop Birkdale Parish. With the premise that ‘Samoans are well integrated in their respective parishes’, a decision was made in late 2018 to discontinue the Samoan Chaplaincy.

From 2019, Samoans have been gathering in the following parishes:
